![]() ![]() Most backgrounds are unlocked through a regular playthrough, but you will have to play all Side Stories and choose both girls for festival preparations to unlock every image. This unusual screen somehow appeared when launching DDLC during Act 2. DDLC selects 3 random "special poems" to appear when it is started for the first time. You will know you've unlocked it when you are greeted with creepy, distorted music and the word "END" replacing the Team Salvato and Serenity Forge logos. This has a 1 in 64 chance of happening, so you may have to attempt this multiple times. The 10th picture in the secrets category is unlocked by exiting and reopening DDLC through the in-game desktop during Act 2. However, 2 of these poems do not appear in the Secrets category, even when unlocked. There are 11 Special Poems to unlock, with 3 poems being shown at random during Act 2 of the game. Secrets, presented to you in-game as " Special Poems", are chosen at random when a new game of DDLC is started. Dan Salvato, the creator, hints that Monika tries to love the player as they are, and her love depends if the player loves her or not. Despite that, she still calls herself their girlfriend, interpreted as hinting ambiguous bisexuality or pansexuality. Monika states that she does not know much about the player, including if they are a boy or a girl. She always has a calm, gentle expression and is portrayed as mature and hard-working. ![]() Monika is also known to be quite popular, which causes the protagonist to have an admiration for her. She is not as talkative as the other girls, but this is implied to not be through choice. Monika is noted by the other characters to be smart, confident and athletic. She also wears a dark-blue skirt, black thigh-high socks, and white uwabaki slippers with pink tips, which are in stark contrast to the rest of the cast's white knee-high socks and blue-tipped slippers. She wears the typical school uniform, which is a warm gray blazer over a brown sweater-vest, and underneath that a white-collared shirt with a red ribbon. She is of average height by Japanese standards, believed to be the second tallest character. She has two prominent strands of hair beside her bangs that reach slightly past her chest, and her eyes are emerald green. Monika has long coral brown hair that she keeps in a high ponytail tied back with a large white bow. This grants her special abilities such as being able to rewrite the game's code and manipulate other game files, which she uses to get the player to spend time with her over the other characters. Over the course of the game, it is revealed that Monika is self-aware, a result of her position as the leader/president of the Literature Club. Monika is the driving force of the game, instructing the club members to practice writing poems until the club festival. Monika is the poster girl of Doki Doki Literature Club! and President of the Literature Club.
